Shisha and the protection of minors
- how many years are you allowed to smoke shisha?
At first glance, for many hookah lovers, it seems as if smoking the shisha is not harmful at all. But smoking shisha, like smoking tobacco, is harmful. It becomes especially harmful if you do it often and smoke on your lungs. That is why there is a corresponding paragraph in the Youth Protection Act regarding smoking shisha.
Since smoking, like the consumption of alcohol, is only
permitted from a certain age limit, smoking shisha is also subject to the
protection of minors. The reason for this is that most types of hookah
tobacco also contain nicotine. Products with nicotine should not be
consumed by adolescents. As soon as nicotine is involved, the protection
of minors always applies.
In theory, however, the age limit is not about the hookah
itself, but about the tobacco used. If it did not contain nicotine, there
would be no strict age restrictions. This means that minors are allowed to
own a shisha, but cannot buy tobacco.
This means that young people from the age of 18 can actually
smoke shisha, buy tobacco and consume it legally. It is often assumed that
young people are allowed to smoke water pipes earlier, but this is not the
correct assumption.
This assumption often comes from the fact that there are
also nicotine-free variants. However, these are also prohibited for
minors. These are mainly e-hookahs or e-cigarettes. With such
electronic devices, consumption is only allowed from the age of 18. The
same also applies to nicotine-free products such as steam stones, steam pastes
or nicotine-free tobac
